Day 14, Thursday, July 18th

Today we left Dartmouth (Halifax) hugging the southern coast for a while and then turned northward then eastward to Cape Breton and our destination for the 275 mile day, Baddeck.

We detoured a bit to go to Port Bickerton to the lighthouse there but as you can see there is 1.8 km of gravel road to get to it - and it looks pretty rough.  So we decided against going there and settled for a picture.

Rather than double back which would have added several miles to the route we took a half mile ferry ride across the river.

Cape Breton Island at last!

Our home for the next three nights.

We met some friends for dinner.  Didn't know we knew anyone up this way did you?  Well we didn't.  Kevin and Mary are from Byhalia, MS, where Kevin has a company that makes and distributes parts and accessories for motorcycles, particularly Harleys and most particularly Harley trikes.  Unbenown to Kevin and me we had both planned to ride Nova Scotia this summer and our schedules overlapped for just this one day.  Tomorrow they are headed to Newfoundland which is a sixteen hour ferry ride, one the Queen was not too excited to do.  Maybe next time we'll get to Newfoundland.
