Day 13, Wednesday, July 17th

Lucky 13, our 13th day of this adventure and we had a great day exploring the Halifax area.  This is the Angus MacDonald bridge which connects Halifax and Dartmouth.  It seems that wherever we need to be it is always on the other side and traffic on the bridge gets quite heavy in the afternoon.  These photos were leaving this morning about 9:30 and it was quite pleasant.

BTW that speed limit sign is in kilometers not miles so 50 kpm is about 31 mph.

Then on to Peggy's Cove and the famous lighthouse there.  Glad we got there early (about 10:30) as it was already very crowded and after a short while the main parking area was full forcing folks to park quite a way from the lighthouse and walk up a very steep road.

Now this is the way a lighthouse should look!

As you can see it was quite foggy but it did clear up a bit before we left.

This bagpiper was along the walkway up to the lighthouse playing for tips.  He was very good.

The Queen found some friends quite naturally.

After our visit we had a bite of lunch and oh yes some shopping.

Then it was on the road to Halifax and our next stop The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

But first after we finally got parked in the parking garage we strolled the waterfront area.

This area of the museum was all about the horrendous explosion that happened on December 6, 1917, when a two ships collided one of which was loaded with war munitions.

Some shots of various interesting things we saw in the museum.

Then the piece de resistance, the artifacts from the Titanic.  Many survivors and bodies of the dead came to Halifax as it was the closest place to help them.

The Titanic exhibit was very moving.  The horror of that night is hard to imagine even after all these years and the bravery of those who gave their lives so others could live is admirable beyond comprehension.
